The Port Kembla Control Tower (PKCT), built in the 1970s with outdated materials, had only undergone minor repairs since its construction. Innovatus Projects was engaged to refurbish the control tower for the first time in 40 years, using an open book construction management model.
The project involved removing all hazardous materials from the façade, roof, walls, and flooring, and ensuring that all new work complied with NCC 2019 Section J standards. The goal was to provide staff with a modern and functional facility. Innovatus Projects won the competitive tender due to their strong track record in safety and effective management, which was crucial as the control tower sits above the operational Administration Building.
